Cordon Electronics and Sony announce a partnership to develop the activity of Sony Alsace Tec
Cordon Electronics’ board presented on March 5th to the employees’ representatives a project of partnership with SONY concerning the industrial site of SONY in Ribeauvillé (Alsace Region, Eastern France), specialized in After-Sales service activities, OEM manufacturing and engineering. This partnership would enable both companies to strengthen their know-how and conquer new markets.
Sony Ribeauvillé establishment facing difficulties to develop on new dynamic markets too far away from its core business, SONY group, after studying various solutions, chose to build-up a partnership project with Cordon Electronics group.
This project would consist in creating a subsidiary receiving the activities of the Ribeauvillié plant in which Cordon Electronics would have a minority shareholding in a first step and would become unique shareholder in the course of 2014. SONY would also commit to maintain for the next four years the current activity on this site.
This project should enable Cordon Electronics group to diversify its After-Sales activities, to benefit from opportunities on the production of middle sized series in subcontracting and develop in neighbouring markets next to Alsace.
For Serge CORDON, Chief Executive officer of Cordon Electronics, « this partnership would be a real opportunity for both companies. Through the association of the know-how of Alsace Tec and Cordon Electronics teams, this would indeed enable us to develop revenue, in particular towards the European markets closer to the Alsace region than our present industrial centres”
Serge FOUCHER, Executive Vice-President of Sony Europe, adds « only a partnership with a specialist of the repair and After-Sales with a strong commercial dynamics would allow attracting new customers and improving the performances of the site. That is why, having studied all the possible solutions, we naturally turned to the project of partnership with the company Cordon Electronics, a historic partner of the company ".
